News Roundup: 2/4/16

Hello what have we here? I see that twinkle in your eye; that desire. The need for Star Wars gaming news. Not to worry. You’re in the right place.

You truly belong with us here among the news…

Video Games

The Rogue One expansion for Star Wars Pinball has a trailer. Because that’s a thing.

Remember Knights of the Old Republic II? Remember Darth Nihilus? Well he’s coming to mobile game Galaxy of Heroes. I don’t think this makes him canon, but it makes him closer to being canon than Darth Revan. If that matters to you. This is a very curious addition to this game, whose characters up until now have all been canon characters from the films and TV shows.

If the future of Star Wars Battlefront is keeping you up at night, you might be able to rest a little easier now that there is some official word from EA and DICE. The takeaway from that post is that, must to players’ dissapointment, there won’t be any more updates to Battlefront’s Skirmish mode as the dev team is (probably for the bettter) going all out on Battlefront 2 now.

EAStarWars also put out a tweet with the announcement that contained a quote about the next Battlefront. Keep your ears open to the next episode of The Jodo Cast where we break down what we think this quote might imply for the game.

Tabletop Games

The tabletop is giving us a little something of everything this week.

The much anticipated (maybe) Wave X of X-Wing Miniatures is available now! This expansion brings Kylo Ren’s Upsilon Shuttle, the Quadjumper, and Sabine’s stolen TIE Fighter to your tabletop. (And technically the TIE Striker and U-Wing count as wave X but those have been out for a while.)

I always thought this was a dumb looking ship to be honest…

Characters like Kylo Ren, Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, and fan favorite Constable Zuvio all arrive in this wave of expansions.

If your wallet needed to take a bigger hit this week, No Disintegrations, a sourcebook for bounty hunters, is also on store shelves now! The long awaited sourcebook for bounty hunters is finally here!

This book introduces new gear, like the coveted Mandalorian Armor; new vehichles, like the Lancer-class Puruit Craft, as well as some exciting new playable species such as the Clawdite, Kalleran, and Devaronian.

If you haven’t played Fantasy Flight’s Star Wars RPGs before and needed a celebrity endorsement, Sam Witwer, the voice behind Maul tweeted this out:

And one last item to pick up on your next shopping run, the Anchorhead Cantina playmat for Imperial Assault Skirmish is also out. Allegedly. The article says it’s “available now” but I don’t actually think we’ll be seeing this product in shops for another week or two. Keep your eyes peeled.

So that’s everything you can run out and buy, but we still got some news of things yet to come!

It’s always a bit of a surprise when we’re reminded that Star Wars The Card Game hasn’t been cancelled (and always a bit of a releif). A new Force Pack in a new cycle has been announced! The Alliances cycle will kick off with Allies of Necessety.

The characters we’ll be getting in this cycle is enough to build up some excitement.

“...you’ll find iconic characters from Rogue One, Star Wars Rebels, and the Darth Vadercomics throughout the cycle: in fact, this first Force Pack includes Doctor Aphra, Director Krennic, Captain Cassian Andor, and Jyn Erso.

I expect 0-0-0 and BT-1 won’t be far behind in this cycle of packs.

This pack also introduces new Affiliation Cards which look like they’ll shake the game up quite a bit. It seems as though (after about 4 years) the design team is really hitting their stride with this game. No one should count it out just yet.
