News Roundup: 1/14/17

Wowee! It’s been quite the week for Star Wars gaming news. Lots of new products announced for the tabletop as well as a new mobile game that’s actually not crap (we think)!

Tabletop

Ok everyone make some space on your table because some big stuff is coming.

In X-Wing miniatures, the Scum & Villainy faction is finally getting an epic ship! The C-ROC Cruiser!

This is Vizago’s ship from Star Wars Rebels. If you look at that card fan, in the second row all the way on the right, there’s a Jabba the Hutt card. HO HO HO….

Amongst the few cards they spoiled, were these two characters from the Rebels show:

Epic ships don’t seem to get nearly as much play or attention as the standard stuff, but this is exciting nonetheless.

If you’ve found yourself getting sucked into the collectible black hole that is Star Wars Destiny lately, good news! More cards are on the horizon with the announcement of the Spirit of Rebellion wave of booster packs!

They haven’t spoiled too much, but the artile does fully spoil Jyn, Krennic, Death Trooper, and Palpatine himself, the first character who can make you your whole team by himself.

And, while not part of the official announcement, a leaked Hungarian advertisement for the game shows us some more dice! Obi Wan, R2-D2, and Maz. The dice with Maz and Kenobi, could theoretically be some kind of upgrade or support dice that uses their faces in the art (think On the Hunt featuring Cade Bane).

If you’re keeping up with the Role Playing Games, Force and Destiny is getting a new sourcebook for consulars, Disciples of Harmony.

This sourcebook will show you how to just chill… or something. It introduces three new species to play as. “Players will also have three new species to choose from: the cold and calculating Arkanian, the genial and soft-spoken Cosian, and the ghoulish and gaunt Pau’an.”

And then there’s the announcement that has me most excited of all, Imperial Assault is getting three new figure packs! BT-1 and 0-0-0 Villain Pack, Jawa Scavenger Villain Pack, and Hera Syndulla and C1-10P Ally Pack!

Guys Chopper is coming to Imperial Assault!

This is exciting as it is surprising. BT and Triple Zero are completely unexpected. It’s cool to see them dipping into the comics for neat characters. This wave is going to offer a lot of support for droids in the game which is well needed.

And finally, for tabletop anyway, all of the Star Wars games recieved tournament regulation updates. Most notably is the changes to scoring in Imperial Assault, which are currently causing confusion amongst the players in a few regards, but long story short, is you now gain points as soon as you defeat a figure, rather than only scoring when all figures in a group are defeated. Good change.

According to a forum post by one of the developers, Battlefront is getting an update on the 17th. This update is supposedly going to fix the horrendously awful Lando glitch that makes him an unholy terror to the enemy team.

If you haven’t encountered the Lando glitch in the wild, consider yourself lucky.

Hopefully they actually fix it this time.

Ok prepare to get a little bit sad. More images have come out of Star Wars characters for Disney Infinity that were in the works, but never got made. Last week we showed you Baze, and now we’ve seen images of a Captain Rex, and an alternate Vader. I want.

But in happier news, there’s a new mobile game out, and so far we actually like it! Crazy we know.

Force Arena is out worldwide on iOS and Android. The game is pretty simple, but it’s fun in its simplicity. It borders on feeling “pay to win” but we haven’t played it enough yet to pass judgement. For now we’re just enjoying it.

If you want to play with us, we already have a guild in Force Arena, just look for TheJodoCast and join up! There’s already over a dozen of us chatting on there.

Even though the game is limited (at least for now) to the Galactic Civil War era, the assortment of characters is really exciting, as there are lots of faces from Rogue One, Rebels, and even the comics!

The game even has some funny throwbacks to sill old Kenner toys.

A freelance game artist, Etienne Beschet, is developing a Star Wars game inspired by The Clone Wars show called Redemption.
None of this is official, and it’s just a fan project, but the designers are fantastic looking and certainly worth checking out.

Be sure to check out the ArtStation Page for this project to look at all the gorgeous art and 3D models for this fan project.

It seems as though the creator would like this to become an actual video game, but that seems unlikely. Here’s hoping.

That’s it for this weeks news! If you want to discuss any of it, we have a brand new place where you can interract with us and other noodle scooters like yourself! Just head over to Reddit.com/r/TheJodoCast and start a conversation about whatever you like!
