News Roundup: 12/3/16

Joe: We’re back again to shovel some hot piping Star Wars Gaming News down your throat. Open wide because here it comes.

Evan:… Ya know, that doesn’t SOUND pleasant, but I’m willing to give it a try.

Joe: In the realm of X-Wing Miniatures, the Quadjumper and the U-Wing both got preview articles filled with goodies to get excited about.

Joe: The Quadjumper features backward manevuers on its dial which is something we’ve never seen before. Oddly enough, the Quadjumper was a space-tug. Not a very fast ship. So why did Rey think they could outrun TIE Fighters in it?

Evan:  I’m honestly at a loss as to what to say about this guy. It certainly seems like they were going for something different than just a Scum analog of a Rebel or Empire ship. Mission accomplished! Now, how will it fit with anything else?

Joe:  I’m not sure how effective flying backwards will end up being, but this ship sure looks like it has a lot of tricks up its sleeves. Do ships have sleeves?

Evan: If you sleeve your pilot cards, then, yes, technically.

Evan: These all seem interesting, and likely to attract a lot of people trying them out, but when trying to think of current meta builds in which these could replace anything previously used, I’m coming up short.

Joe: This ship looks like it’s probably one of those you’ll only ever want one of, try some crazy stuff for a while, then find out it’s not that effective, though it is pretty silly and fun.

Joe: The U-Wing on the other hand, looks like it might have some more utility other than just shenanigans.

Evan: I might be biased simply because this ship is infinitely cooler than the Quadjumper, but everything in here seems like it will be tried multiple times over. There seem to be more synergies here that are immediately obvious.

Joe: Inspiring Recruit looks like a potentially very powerful card. It could be paired up with Rage, or other stress inducing mechanics. I predict we’ll see a lot of inpsiring recruits out there once this expansion lands.

Evan: A preview of the new species in No Disintegrations is up. The new species that are being added with this book all really make sense, and, to a degree, I’m surprised we haven’t seen some of them already. Devaronians most especially, as they have been with us since day one of the films.

Joe: Playing as a Clawdite sounds super fun. That will definitely take playing a con artist or any type of rogue character to a whole new level. I want to be a Clawdite now.

Joe: I’m also really happy to see the Kallerans show up in here. I really liked them in the Kanan comic where they debuted. Though if I had to pick, I’d play as a Clawdite.

Evan: The Clawdite is a really cool concept that was shown off quite a bit more in the Children of the Jedi arc on Clone Wars, but I’m really happy to see the Kallerans. Anytime we get to see things from outside the films and TV shows is great with me.

Joe: Finally we get a Jabba preview for Imperial Assault!

Evan: Awww, I figured Jabba would have a 10 speed!

Joe: The three new command cards that come with this expansion look particularly dirty.

Joe: Apparently people still play Galaxy of Heroes. Well if you’re one of those people, starships are coming to the game.

Joe: Yawn.

Evan: I would yawn, too, but after my neighbor told me how much he was enjoying it, and he’s not a super big Star Wars fan, as far as I know, I feel like I need to give it a fair shake. I tried Heroes of DragonAge, or whatever the equivalent was called, and it was not horrible. Not great, but I didn’t want to stab my eyes out.

Evan: Could be fake. A tweet that got taken down referencing the first expansion for destiny. Expected this is, and fortunate? I guess it depends on how quickly you want news about upcoming expansions only a couple days into release.

Joe: Seems like a very plausible first expansion. Seems legit to me.

Joe: The trailer for the Scarif DLC for Battlefront is out and it looks awesome.

Evan: Sigh… EA has managed to do one thing particularly well with Battlefront: their trailers make the game look fantastic. The fact that they can use the in-game engine to produce something that could rival an animated film is terrific. They make me want to do those things in the trailer. When I get in, though, I just die and I remember why I don’t play much. I hope this is not the case again, but I’m afraid it will be.

Joe: EA has also put up a webpage filled with lots of goodies and info about the new DLC. Get a closer look at the two new pistols as well as some closer looks at the environments in the DLC. The description for Jyn’s blaster pistol reminds me a lot of the modular gun from Republic Commando.

Joe: If you have some time to kill, you can also watch the replay of the Scarif DLC livestream. To see some of the cool new stuff in action if you just can’t wait.

Joe: With the update that’ll accompany this DLC, all of the “vanilla heroes” will be getting traits like all of the DLC heroes. (Traits are those abilities that keep leveling up when you get kills).

Evan: Is there a trait that will help me suck less?

Evan: According to the EA CFO who recently talked about upcoming titles from the mega-corp, Battlefront 2 will be “much bigger”

“If there was criticism, they just wanted more,” he said. “So we’re taking that criticism to heart as we build the next game and trying to address any of the issues that they had.” – Blake Jorgensen EA CFO

Evan: If nothing else, a campaign mode would be amazing, or at least a better rewards system that doesn’t feel like a mobile game on steroids. Thinking players “just wanted more” is like saying that people liked Deadpool because there was a ton of vulgarity and violence in it.

Joe: I still have a feeling they’ll be omitting the prequel era stuff which is sad.

Evan: Oh look an Armada preview for Phoenix Home expansion. I sure wish I had the time and money for this game, too. I can’t reiterate enough how enjoyable I found it at GenCon.

Joe: It’s really cool to see more stuff from Rebels making its way onto our tabletops. That’s some awesome new artowork for Ahsoka too.

Evan: Also Major “Cliff” Derlin! (That’s a Cheers reference for all you kids born after 1990)

Joe: There seems to be a lot of new things coming with just this one ship which is neat to see.

Evan: Destiny is out! More or less, depending on how big a shipment your store managed to get.

Joe: A lot of game stores seem to be getting hit with some distribution issues. They’re getting less stock than they were originally expecting from FFG. My store was fortunate enough to get their full order in, but other places got screwed out of a lot of the product they were promised. I think this has something to do with the dice taking longer to manufacture than they had originally planned for.

Evan: My primary store said they weren’t interested in the game but ordered some regardless. They quickly ran out of starters and they have one open box of boosters left. Looks like they guessed wrong.

Joe: I picked up 12 boosters on Thursday. That brings my total collection to 2 starters and 26 boosters. AND STILL NOT ONE RED HERO CHARACTER!!!!!

Evan: Want a Rebel Trooper and a Veers? I was gonna say I haven’t gotten any repeats yet on my rares, but, oh wait, I got a friggin’ Jedi Robes which is already in the starter! ARGH

Evan: And of course, The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire is live for all Premium players!

Evan: Unlike some people, I haven’t been able to finish the new campaign yet, nor have I even gotten to try the new Galactic Command system since I’m not level 70, but wow. Just, wow! They have really brought their A-game in terms of story-crafting, cinematography, pacing, action, and giving us more and different interactive experiences within the game. In Chapter 1, already, I got to pilot a walker through heavily fortified enemy territory, blasting bad guys, stomping on them, or using a gravity bomb to suck them all into one spot then drop a missile on them! It’s a blast! (Get it?)

Evan: On top of that, players who’ve been subscribed since the announcement also received their rewards including Mandalore the Avenger companion and a new recon walker mount (non-combat; smarmy-looking guy not included), and both are so cool to add to your Alliance Commander’s growing arsenal.
