News Roundup: 7/1/16

News time people! Here’s all the news you missed during the week. Or if you didn’t miss it, you get to read it again!

Video Games

Harrison Ford is making his video game debut! As Han Solo! In The Force Awakens Lego game? It’s cool nonetheless because the Lego games are always really fun, and the fact that the actors from the films are getting in on the game is great; Ford, Fisher, Ridley, Boyega, Daniels, etc. This game is looking better all the time.

Dan Brooks did an interview on StarWars.com with the director of the game about what goes into making a Star Wars Lego game.

We have one mission where, jokingly, we have to get Wookiee Cookies for Chewie and, unbelievably, we managed to get Harrison Ford to say “Wookiee Cookies.” [Laughs] That’s still one of the highlights of Graham’s career and mine, that we managed to get Harrison Ford to say that.

That’s just a tiny part of the full interview, which is actually pretty extensive.

Also here’s a gameplay video of an unannounced Female Cyborg skin for Battlefront. Not sure how this guy gets this stuff, he seems to have a dev setup, but it’s interesting regardless.

If you’re a fan (or were) of Disney Infinity I’ve got some disheartening news. There was a Hera figure in the works apparently that will now never see the light of day.

I’m going to cry if it turns out they were going to be making a Chopper figure for that game.

The GEMINI Deception is now live in SWTOR:

SWTOR continues to close in on the end of their Knights of the Fallen Empire campaign, and yesterday’s developer live stream has more details on the next front of the war against the Eternal Empire.

Guest writer Bryan Young recently put up an article on FFG about blending the Age of Rebellion RPG with X-Wing miniatures. The space combat in the RPG system did seem to be a weak point in my opinion, so  merging it with the excellent X-Wing system could be something worth trying.

FFG has announced a Fleet Building Contest for Armada! The gist of it is you design a fleet and they’ll pick their favorites to win some of the new Armada expansions. Cool stuff.

The submission form for the contest is live now. Submit your fleet!

One of the new ships you’ll probably want to include in your fleet is the Interdictor. A new preview has been posted and although I don’t play Armada often, this ship looks really exciting. You can move around obstacles and force ships to change speeds. This thing is going to be a cheeky ship.

Also the expansion comes with at least three characters that originated on Star Wars Rebels:

The second of the Wave IV ship for Armada also got a preview this week: The Liberty.

This ship really packs a punch.

The next force pack for the Star Wars Card Game, Redemption and Return, will be available in stores next week.

This pack will give you a new version of Emperor Palpatine and some dirty new objectives to help you crush the rebels.

If you like building Sith decks this expansion is probably a must have.

Also for The Card Game, FFG has announced a two-player playmat for the game and it looks amazing!

This mat looks great. I don’t play the LCG that often, but this mat is pretty tempting.

Last week we got the Grand Inquisitor preview for Imperial Assault, this week we’ve got a preview for Greedo! He looks like a lot of fun. What a chump!

This card looks awesome! First of all that looks like Sabine in the art, but second of all this could be good on units like Boba or IG-88.

In another surprising instance of fast release times, the three new expansion packs for Imperial Assault are being listed as Shipping Now, which usually means roughly two weeks until they’re on store shelves!

Obi Wan, The Grand Inquisitor, and Greedo will be part of your squads or campaigns in no time!

In less exciting news, the colored bases and pegs for X-Wing Miniatures should be available in stores by the time you’re reading this.

But the product you’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Imperial Veterans expansion is now in stores.

If you’re interested in, or planning on attending this years World Championship event for any of the Star Wars games, FFG has put up a few more details about that.  You’d better read up if you want tickets, they’ve been notoriously frustrating to secure in the past.

Worlds this year will be November 2nd-6th in Roseville, MN where it’s always held.

StarWars.com put up an article about the 5 best games for family game night. While Loopin’ Chewie and Clash of the Lightsabers were unfortunately absent from the list, it otherwise seems like a solid list worth checking out if you need some simpler Star Wars games in your life.

Another notable omission from the list is Star Wars: Epic Duels. Though to be fair the author said games that are just too expensive now were left off the list.
