Wookieepedia’s Wierdest: Species Part 1

If you’re like me, then you know that Wookieepedia can be a real time sink.

I’ve been doing my best lately to delve into the site’s deepest darkest depths (mostly by clicking the ‘random article’ button’) to dredge up some things you may not have known existed in the Star Wars universe.

Today we’re going to look at some crazy species, from fabulous to frightening. There’s lots of interesting, odd, and fantastical creatures out there in the Star Wars universe, some more well known than others.

For this I only grabbed ones that I thought were really odd or silly. Hold on to your wampa hole, we’re going in.

Duloks and Plogs

Duloks

Duloks and Phlogs are both species that come from the old Ewoks cartoons. And they look pretty dumb. Duloks were skeevy green guys who fought with the Ewoks over berry trees or something and the Phlogs were big brutes that were typically used as thugs and laborers. If you want to see another dumb thing to come out of the Ewoks cartoon check out the Vroom.

Dragon Bird

Dragon Birds were… dragon birds.  Yep. Dragon_bird

PolydroxolPolydroxol

Polydroxols were pretty much just Silver Surfers. But they could also shapeshift. And they were made of metal. They resembled two hundred kilogram masses of mercury while in their liquid state.

These guys only appeared in an old West End Games RPG sourcebook.

Toong

Ok you’ve seen a Toong before. But they’re just so funny looking I had to include it in this list. In an example of writers basing the traits of a whole species on just one character, Toongs “exhibited severe nervousness and agoraphobia.” Just because the one guy we saw in the movie was nervous, that must mean they’re all nervous right? BenQuadinarosFull-SWE

When do we get these guys in the FFG roleplaying line?

Kushiban_UAAKushiban

Kushiban were little cute fuzzy rabbit things. They were sentient, and sometimes even foce sensitive. JEDI BUNNIES.

“The head of a Kushiban was dominated by the two big, soft ears, which a Kushiban could rise or drop at will or to reflect changes of mood: When disappointed or tired a Kushiban dropped the ears,” D’AWWW.

“…The ears rocked when a Kushiban nodded, and fell to the floor when a Kushiban was sleeping.” D’AAAAAWWWW. kushiban

BouncerinfoboxBouncers

Bouncers were just big green furry balls of tentacles that floated on the wind and bounced off stuff to get where they needed to go.

These guys were actually sentient, but mostly just bounced around enjoying themselves. They have quite the history too, having run-ins with the likes of Kyle and Morgan Katarn.

If you ask me Bouncers should be in more storys. Bouncers_with_Morgan

SedrianSedrian

Sedrians were pretty much Seal-Centaurs. Underwater centaurs! They all apparently worshiped a giant oyster thing called the Golden Sun and were’t bright enough to realize it was in fact a sentient being.

The Rebellion helped them drive the empire from their planet and after that they became friendly towards the Alliance, though I can’t imagine they could be very helpful since they’re completely aquatic, unlike Mon Cal, Quarren, or Gungans who can at least leave the ocenan and be perfectly fine. Sedrian1

But Seal-Centaurs.

That’s going to wrap up round one of Wookiepedia’s Weirdest: Species. Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty more crazy creatures to bring into the spotlight in future installments so stay tuned and thanks for reading.
