News Roundup: 6/18/16 E3 Speical

E3 has come and gone, and with it a bunch of video game news has landed on our space-doorstep! Take a look at what we’ve got for you this week.

Video Games

EA released the above video. It’s exciting and also frustratingly vague. In it we get a glimpse of Bossk in Battlefront, as well as a tease that we might be getting a lightsaber based game down the line.

In addition to the video they released an article “detailing” the future of Star Wars games. Most notably, Visceral’s still unnamed game will be out in 2018, and Battlefront II will be out in 2017.

Speaking of Battlefront II, an IGN interview with Jade Raymond seems to imply that Battlefront II will have a singleplayer campaign that spans multiple eras. Though it was super vague and could mean anything. Here’s hoping.

With Battlefront, you said you are listening to fans. John Boyega, who played Finn in The Force Awakens is a big fan. He tweeted about wanting a single-player campaign. Is that something you are adding to the next Battlefront?

We are listening to fans! We’re giving fans what they are asking for. (laughs)

We got a brief glimpse of that game during the press conference. You use the word “new” a lot when describing EA’s Star Wars games. Does that mean you are not looking back to the films that came before? Is the focus now moving the timeline forward?

We actually have projects spanning many eras, not just the new movies.

To probe deeper, does that mean these games are set before the original trilogy and prequel films? Or will we see games that revisit the movies like Battlefront just did?

It’s a little bit of both, actually. We have stuff that’s slotting into different films, including the newer and older ones, and we have some things like what Amy Hennig is working on that is an original narrative.

PlayStation has announced the X-Wing VR Mission for Battlefront. Which is cool I guess. If you plan on having a PlayStation VR. So like 1% of Battlefront players will get to play this.

There’s also a few new videos out for Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens. Also the demo for the game is now available!

And something you can look forward to sooner than all that, the Bespin DLC for Battlefront just got a trailer:

If you didn’t catch it, there are Royal Guards now which will be replacing the shock troopers for Palpatine:

More details about the DLC can be found on the official Bespin info page. or on this Reddit thread discussing what was shown off in the live stream. The DLC includes a new mode called Sabotage as well. It will be available on the 21st to season pass holders and the 28th for everyone else.

Oh also the fan made remaster of KOTOR looks like it’s coming along nicely.

The future of Star Wars games is so bright. We can’t wait to see what’s next.
