FFG In-Flight Report 2018 Star Wars News Recap

Whoo boy. The annual In-Flight report at GenCon dropped some big ones on us this year. In addition to non-Star Wars game announcements, like a curious new card game by Richard Garfield called Keyforge, we got BIG news for Star Wars Armada, Legion, and X-Wing Second Edition.

LOOK AT THAT THING.

They’ve finally done it. After years of everyone thinking they couldn’t. The super star destroyer is here for Armada.

This puppy is around 1.5 feet long. It has 6 firing arcs, and 3 attacks per turn. There are rules to use it in standard play, as well as special rules to use it in more large scale play. It’s crazy.

It’s the biggest miniature FFG has ever produced and it’ll set you back $199.

Next up we got some new announcements for Star Wars Legion!

As many people predicted, Chewbacca and Wookie Warriors were announced.

Chewbacca is an operative, like Boba Fett; a unique figure in your army that’s not a commander unit. Chewie looks crazy good with some new abilities we haven’t seen before.

Enrage 4: If he has 4 or more wounds, his courage value becomes infinite and he gains Charge.
Expert Climber
Guardian 3
Teamwork: Han Solo
: Looks like if Han and Chewie are close to each other, when one gets an aim token, so does the other!
Unhindered or something: Ignore effects of difficult terrain.

The command card we can see also lets you fish one of Han’s command cards out of the discard pile!

Everything about Chewie is looking fantastic except that he rolls a white die on defense. WHITE DICE ARE THE WOOOOORST.

And Chewie gets some furry friends!

These guys come with a new ability Indomitable: They get to roll a red die when rallying! But still a white die on defense…. The sculpts on these guys are gorgeous. These will be fun to paint.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!

They also announced two “personnel expansions” for Legion.

These packs add 4 new minis that can be slotted into any existing unit that has the Personnel upgrade slot!

In addition to that, you can alternatively use the Rebel Officer as a commander unit instead of using it as a personnel upgrade. Looks like the commander unit is only 50 points which could blow some list building wide open.

The packs come with an Officer, a Medical Droid, an Astromech Droid, and a Communications Specialist you can slot into your trooper units.

These packs also come with some faction specific command cards.

OH DANG that artwork of that Imperial officer is awesome. I can’t wait to see the cool sculpt for the female officer:

Oh. That sculpt looks nothing like that art. Oh well. I play Rebels anyway.

These packs bode very well for the future of Legion. Breathing new life into core set units will do well to keep them relevant as more and more things are released.

And now onto X-Wing.

As we all expected, Resistance and First Order conversion kits are coming. The RZ-2 A-Wing is new to X-Wing Second edition and will be releasing alongside these kits.

The Resistance and First Order conversion kits will come with all the neutral upgrade cards you need, so if you don’t want to bother with the other factions, you won’t feel pressured into getting those kits just for some upgrade cards which is very nice.

The Scum faction also got a new ship announced.

Another ship from Star Wars Rebels.

Neat? Neat.

But the best news of all:

Clone Wars factions will be coming to X-Wing and Legion! Republic and Separatists!

This prequel stuff will show up sometime in 2019.
